Neoquassin is a quassinoid that has been used in the treatment of bowel disease. It is found in Camptotheca acuminata (tree) and has anti-inflammatory properties. Neoquassin has been shown to inhibit fatty acid production, which may lead to an improvement in inflammatory bowel disease. The effects of neoquassin are also related to its ability to inhibit the activity of two enzymes, diacylglycerol and phospholipase A2, which play a role in inflammation. Studies have shown that neoquassin can be used as an effective treatment for chronic viral hepatitis by inhibiting the replication of the virus within liver cells.
