1-Phenylcyclopentanecarbonitrile (PCN) is a chemical compound that has biological properties. It is used in the production of polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, and other plastics. PCN may also be used as an intermediate for the production of other chemicals such as diammonium cyanide, which is a raw material for the manufacture of fertilizers, and methoxyacetic acid, which is a precursor to pharmaceuticals. PCN has been shown to have neurotoxic effects on the nervous system in mice. It also causes atropine-like effects when administered to rats.
