4-Amino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid (ANS) is a sulphanilic, hydroxyl group, nitrogen atoms, and amine. ANS has been shown to induce genotoxic effects in the presence of nitrite ion. ANS reacts with amines to form diazonium salts which are unstable and can undergo electrochemical reactions. This instability can lead to DNA damage in the presence of oxygen. 4-Amino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid (ANS) is an analytical reagent that is used for the detection of fatty acids.
