Brompheniramine is a drug with antihistaminergic, anticholinergic, and sedative properties. It is used to treat allergic symptoms, such as hay fever and urticaria. Brompheniramine is also used to prevent or treat bowel disease in people who have had ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. The chemical stability of brompheniramine has been studied using the intramolecular hydrogen technique. Brompheniramine was found to be stable in trifluoroacetic acid and methanol, but not in water. Brompheniramine has been shown to have antioxidative properties in the presence of human serum and oxidative metabolic disorders in rat liver cells. Experiments have also shown that brompheniramine can be used as a linear calibration curve for chemiluminescence measurements of nitric oxide concentration and for titration calorimetry of blood pressure monitoring.
