The mechanism of action of this drug is not known, but it has shown potential as a drug target for interfering with the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) process. Salicylanilide inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting DNA synthesis and RNA synthesis. This drug also has a potent effect on human serum, and may be useful for analytical methods such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
