3-Bromo[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-ol is a betaine metabolite that is formed by the oxidation of choline or trimethylamine. It can be detected by microscopy in a variety of biological samples. 3-Bromo[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-ol has been used as an immunosensor for environmental monitoring and identification of typhimurium in food. This metabolite can be used as an amplifier to increase the sensitivity of electrochemical detection and is also amenable to linear range detection. 3-Bromo[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-ol has been shown to be catalysed by arenes such as naphthalene or anthracene.
