Description

1-Phenyl-1-propanol is a synthetic antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by disrupting their cell membranes. It is a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme enoyl coenzyme A (CoA) reductase, which is essential for the metabolism of fatty acids. 1-Phenyl-1-propanol has been shown to be effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. This compound has been used as an alternative to trifluoroacetic acid in low doses and has been shown to be safe for analytical chemistry purposes.
