2-Amino-4-chlorodiphenyl Ether (2-ACPD) is a synthetic, polymerized amide that is used as an intermediate for the production of polymers with amine and carboxylic acid groups. It is also used in the synthesis of chlorinated hydrocarbons, such as trichloroethylene. 2-ACPD has been synthesised by reacting magnesium with 2-chlorobenzaldehyde, followed by reaction with ammonia chloride to form the corresponding amide. This process can be carried out on a laboratory scale using techniques such as chlorination, polymerization or gel permeation chromatography.
