Nitarsone is a compound that belongs to the group of antimicrobial agents. It is a white, odorless crystalline powder with a melting point of 235°C. Nitarsone has been shown to inhibit the growth of Histomonas and other protozoa by inactivating their enzymes. The compound is also an animal feed supplement that helps prevent liver lesions in pigs. Nitarsone has shown antimicrobial activity against a number of bacterial strains, including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella typhimurium.
