Benzyl isobutyrate is an organic solvent that has a phase transition temperature of 13.1°C. It is used as a solvent for resins, paints, and varnishes. The compound can be found in propionates and benzoates, where it serves as a cross-linking agent. Benzyl isobutyrate also has the ability to react with methyl anthranilate to form ethyl formate and benzaldehyde. This chemical can be found in skin conditioners and cosmetics, where it acts as an emollient or control agent. Benzyl isobutyrate comprises a structural formula of CH3CH2CO2CH2CH2COOCH3 with four carbons, two hydrogens, three oxygens, one nitrogen, and one sulfur atom.
