TEPP is a chemical that blocks the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which breaks down acetylcholine to stop its effects. TEPP is a potent antagonist of acetylcholinesterase and has been shown to have toxic effects on mammals. TEPP is used as a chemical weapon for its ability to inhibit the enzyme acetylcholinesterase in humans. It can cause death by respiratory paralysis at high doses and sublethal doses can lead to neurotoxic symptoms such as convulsions, tremors, and loss of consciousness. TEPP has been shown to be effective against most strains of sarin nerve gas in animal studies.
