Butyl isovalerate is an organic compound that has a formula weight of 136.08. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent, fruity odor. Butyl isovalerate can be synthesized by the acid catalyzed reaction of isovaleric acid and propionate. The compound was first isolated from the seeds of Illicium verum (star anise) in 1858 by A.
