3-Bromophthalic acid is an isoquinoline alkaloid that has a wide range of biological activities, including antimicrobial, anticancer, antiviral and antifungal. It has been shown to be active against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae as well as Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 3-Bromophthalic acid is also effective against yeast and fungi such as Candida albicans and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. The antimicrobial activity of 3-bromophthalic acid is related to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of RNA by binding to the ribosomal RNA (rRNA) in the bacterial cell. This compound also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the peptidyl transferase center of the ribosome. In addition, 3-bromophthalic acid
