N,N'-Diacetyl-1,4-phenylenediamine is a potent allergen that is responsible for the majority of allergic reactions in humans. It has been shown to cause skin irritation and toxicity studies in cell culture. This molecule also has been shown to affect the activity of enzymes such as p-450 enzymes and quillaja saponaria, which are important for the production of prostaglandins that play an important role in the inflammatory process. In addition, N,N'-diacetyl-1,4-phenylenediamine has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on human cells and may be used as a biological treatment for cancer or other diseases.
