Iproniazid phosphate is also used as a chemiluminescent reagent in pharmaceutical preparations and as an inhibitor of malic acid uptake in animals. Iproniazid phosphate is rapidly hydrolyzed by esterases to iproniazid, which has been shown to have antidepressant effects.
