Leucoquinizarin is a nonpolar solvent that has been used in pharmaceutical preparations. It is a redox-active compound and can be used as an amine or acid conjugate. Leucoquinizarin reacts with radiation, forming reactive oxygen species, which may cause DNA damage. This molecule also inhibits fatty acid synthesis and the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The reaction mechanism of leucoquinizarin is not well understood but it has potent inhibitory activity against bacteria and fungi. Leucoquinizarin is an isomeric mixture of two compounds, leucopelargonidin and quinizarin, which have different chemical structures.
