Product Information
Carviolin is a polyketide that has been isolated from the endophytic fungus, Dictyosphaeria tubingensis. Carviolin is structurally related to the chemical diversity of carvacrol and thymol, which have been shown to have immunosuppressive activities. Carviolin has also been shown to inhibit the growth of human papilloma virus (HPV) in vitro and in vivo. In addition, carviolin has been shown to suppress tumor formation in mice with experimental brain tumors. The chemical structure of carviolin contains a hydroxyl group, which provides some similarity with human keratin. This may be the reason why it inhibits the growth of HPV and induces apoptosis in cancer cells.
