Product Information
Calycanthoside is a plant chemical that modulates the immune system. Calycanthoside inhibits the synthesis of fatty acid granules and has been shown to inhibit the replication of viruses, such as HIV, by interfering with the viral envelope. Calycanthoside also inhibits phytoalexin production in plants and can be used as an antimicrobial agent against bacteria and fungi. Calycanthoside is a coumarin derivative that is chemically related to other compounds found in plants. This chemical structure has been shown to inhibit human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection in vitro. Calycanthosides have been shown to have chemoprotective properties against HIV-1 infection in vitro and may be useful for treating AIDS patients who are resistant to current drugs.
