Description:4-Carbethoxy-3-methyl-2-cyclohexen-1-one is a regiospecific, stereoselective, and efficient method for the synthesis of cis/trans isomers of unsaturated ketones. It is used as a building block in the synthesis of analogs of natural products. The cyclopentanone moiety in 4-Carbethoxy-3-methylcyclohexenone can be converted to cyclohexanones with hydrogen chloride in ethyl bromoacetate. The chlorine atoms can be replaced by other halides such as bromine or iodine to give new isomers. This compound has been shown to inhibit leukemia cells and may have potential as an anticancer agent.
