2,2'-Biimidazole is a diphenyl ether compound with a stable complex. It is used in the preparation of coordination compounds, which are often found in biological systems. These complexes can be formed by reacting 2,2'-biimidazole with various metal ions such as copper(II), zinc(II), or nickel(II). The coordination geometry and x-ray crystal structures of these complexes have been studied extensively. The group p2 electron configuration of 2,2'-biimidazole has been shown to undergo transfer reactions to form acid and carbonyl complexes. These complexes have been characterized using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and photochemical properties.
