Docosanedioic acid is a pentacosanoic acid that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. It can be used in the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis, and also has anti-microbial activity. Docosanedioic acid inhibits the production of prostaglandins, which are inflammatory mediators. This compound's low redox potential makes it stable under high salt conditions, and it does not react with azobenzenes. Docosanedioic acid has been shown to inhibit the production of fatty acids and fatty esters in vivo in humans. It also reacts with cytochrome P450 enzymes and is a monoclonal antibody substrate. Docosanedioic acid binds to rat liver microsomes, but not to human erythrocytes or bovine liver microsomes.
