Evolitrine is a hydrochloride salt of dictamnine, an active ingredient found in the Australian plant Pedunculata. Evolitrine has been used as a medicinal preparation to treat hypertension and other diseases. It is also used in Chinese medicine preparations for its anti-tumor effects. Evolitrine has been shown to have an effective dose at 0.5-5mg/kg body weight, although it can be toxic at higher doses. The chemical structures of this drug are similar to moronic acid and choline chloride, both of which have been shown to be effective against tumors in animal models. Evolitrine has also been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in vitro by inhibiting protein synthesis and DNA synthesis, as well as by inducing apoptosis.
