2-Acetoxypropionic Acid is a chemical that belongs to the class of phenylacetic acid derivatives. It is a substrate for bacterial enzymes such as the enzyme acetate kinase, which catalyzes the conversion of acetate and ATP to 2-acetoxypropionate and ADP. This chemical has been shown to have inhibitory effects on transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and also inhibits the activity of bacterial strains with high resistance. 2-Acetoxypropionic Acid also reduces the production of bacterial polymers by inhibiting the polymerases involved in DNA replication. The chemical has been shown to be effective against lactococcus and coli k-12 bacteria, but not wild-type strains.
