Ethyl Valerate is a glycol ether that is used as a process solvent in the production of polyvinyl chloride. Ethyl Valerate has been shown to have a high affinity for amyloid proteins, binding to them and inhibiting their aggregation. It has also been shown to inhibit the growth of infectious agents such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and HIV-1. Ethyl Valerate can be used as an odorant binder in cosmetic products and as a chemical intermediate in the production of fatty acids. The reaction mechanism of Ethyl Valerate is not well understood, but it is believed that it may be due to its ability to bind with receptor molecules on cell surfaces.
