Triphenylantimony Dichloride (TPA) is a divalent hydrocarbon that forms a viscous liquid. TPA has been used as an anticancer agent since the 1930s. It is one of the first synthetic drugs to be used in cancer chemotherapy and has been shown to be effective against breast, prostate, and lung cancers. The drug binds to DNA, forming cross-links between two adjacent thymine or cytosine bases. This prevents DNA replication and transcription, resulting in cell death. TPA has also been linked to the formation of reactive oxygen species which may contribute to its anticancer activity.
