Brazilein is a cationic peptide isolated from the venom of the Brazilian pit viper, Bothrops jararaca. It has been shown to activate voltage-gated sodium channels, and inhibit potassium channels. Brazilein has also been shown to bind to a variety of different receptors, including muscarinic acetylcholine (mACh) receptors and serotonin 5HT2A receptors. Brazilein is used as a research tool for investigating protein interactions, as well as various other fields in life science such as pharmacology and cell biology. Brazilein is purified with high purity and has a low molecular weight. It can be used as an inhibitor or activator depending on the requirements of the experiment.
