Triphenylantimony(III) is a group P2 molecule with the chemical formula SbH3. It belongs to the class of triphenylantimony compounds. The molecular structure of this compound has been determined by x-ray diffraction and electron diffraction studies. The molecule is planar and has an octahedral geometry around the central antimony atom with a transoid point group symmetry. Triphenylantimony(III) can be prepared by reacting hydrochloric acid with hydroxyl groups, which produces hydrogen gas and water, as well as heat. Triphenylantimony(III) reacts in a reversible manner with oxygen, forming triphenylantimony oxide and water. This reaction mechanism is intramolecular and proceeds through a hydrogen transfer from one of the two methoxy groups to one of the two carbonyl groups on the other methoxy group.
