Cholesteryl arachidonate is a cholesteryl ester that is found in human serum and atherosclerotic lesions. It is synthesized from the cholesterol molecule by the enzyme acyl-coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase. Cholesteryl arachidonate is also found in low concentrations in human adipose tissue and can be used as an indicator of obesity. The chemical properties of this compound are similar to those of other polyunsaturated lipids, with a high melting point and boiling point. This substance has antioxidative properties and may play a role in the prevention of infectious diseases. Cholesteryl arachidonate also plays a role in the metabolism of endoxifen, which inhibits estrogen synthesis.
