Product Information
2,3-Dihydroxynaphthoquinone is a ligand that binds to the active site of the viral protease. It is a potent antiviral agent that inhibits the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in culture and has shown activity against other viruses such as poliovirus and influenza virus. The compound also has an inhibitory effect on the release of histamine from mast cells. 2,3-Dihydroxynaphthoquinone is structurally related to citric acid and hydroxybenzoic acid. It forms complexes with many metal ions, such as lanthanide ions and silicon, which are components of many enzymes. These interactions produce inhibition by binding or chelation.
