Product Information

Name:
Sekikaic acid
Description:

Sekikaic acid is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme usnic acid dehydrogenase. This inhibition has been shown to have antioxidative properties in cell culture experiments. Sekikaic acid has also been shown to inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species in magnetic resonance spectroscopy experiments, as well as to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi in tissue culture studies. In addition, sekikaic acid has been shown to be effective against diabetes and diabetic complications in animal models. The antidiabetic effect may be due to the ability of sekikaic acid to stimulate insulin secretion, increase glucose uptake by tissues, or improve glucose tolerance. Sekikaic acid also has anti-inflammatory effects when administered orally, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
