Product Information
Name:4-(4-Nitrophenylazo)orcinol
Brand:Biosynth
Description:4-(4-Nitrophenylazo)orcinol is an organic compound that has been synthesized in order to study the condensation reactions of acetoacetate with benzaldehyde or 4-nitrobenzaldehyde. The yield of this reaction is dependent on the wavelength of light used and can be increased by using a catalyst such as ethyl acetoacetate. The synthesis of 4-(4-Nitrophenylazo)orcinol was first published in 1959, although it was not until 1967 when the structure was confirmed. This molecule is also known to act as a coumarin synthase and phenolase, catalysing the formation of coumarins and phenols from molecules such as cinnamaldehyde. The constant for this reaction is 1.0 × 10^6 M^−1 s^−1 at pH 5 and 37°C.
