2,4,6-Tribromoanisole (2,4,6-TBAA) is a volatile organic compound that is used in the production of paper and wood products. 2,4,6-TBAA has been shown to be toxic to the kidney proximal tubules. The mechanism by which 2,4,6-TBAA causes toxicity is not well understood. It may be due to an interaction with other chemicals or an effect on receptor cells in the kidney. The toxicological effects of 2,4,6-TBAA have been studied using a number of different analytical methods and toxicity studies. These studies show that 2,4,6-TBAA is not mutagenic and does not cause reproductive toxicity or carcinogenicity.
