It is a strong nucleophile and its conjugate base, 2-carboxybenzamide, can react with an electron pair from an aromatic ring to form dihydroorotic acid. 2-Carbamoylamino-benzoic acid has been shown to be effective at inhibiting serine proteases and amide proteases. It has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzyme.
