2-Methylquinolin-6-ol is an electron-rich aromatic compound that can be used as a fluorescent probe for bioactive molecules. It has been used in the study of infectious diseases, such as malaria and tuberculosis, and in the identification of indolenium and quinolinium molecular ions. 2-Methylquinolin-6-ol can be synthesized by reacting benzothiazole with crotonic acid using an acid catalyst. 2-Methylquinolin-6-ol is also a fluorescent molecule that produces blue light when excited by radiation.
