The molecule is an isomer of 2,4-dibromo-1,5-dimethylbenzene that has been shown to have potential as a glucose lowering agent. 1,5-Dibromo-2,4-dimethylbenzene inhibits the sodium dependent glucose transporter SGLT1 by binding to the substrate site and blocking the transport of glucose into cells. This inhibition leads to decreased blood sugar levels and improved insulin sensitivity.
