DL-Lysine Dihydrochloride is an amino acid that is a component of proteins. It has been shown to have antiviral properties and can be used as a dietary supplement. Lysine is synthesized in the body from L-arginine and alpha-ketoglutarate. In addition, it is essential for protein synthesis and the formation of collagen, which provides structure to tissues like skin, bone, cartilage, muscle, and blood vessels. DL-Lysine has been shown to be effective against aerogenes bacteria by preventing the growth of these bacteria by inhibiting their ability to make DNA or RNA. This drug also binds with histidine residues on the surface of bacteria in order to form hydrogen bonds that prevent bacterial cell division. The carbonyl group of lysine reacts with nucleophiles such as hydroxyl groups on the bacterial cell wall, forming covalent bonds that lead to cell death.
