Description:1,6-Diiodohexane is a monolayer compound that has been shown to emit fluorescence when excited by light. It is also used in the Suzuki coupling reaction as a 1,4-dienophile. This molecule can be synthesized from hexene and iodine or from methyl acrylate and dibromoiodobenzene. The model system for this molecule consists of two molecules of 1,6-diiodohexane joined by an azide bond. The molecules are arranged in a head-to-tail fashion with the proton on one end and the template molecule on the other end. The polymer film consists of alternating layers of polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) with alternating layers of 1,6-diiodohexane.
