Description:
Propiophenone is a propionic acid derivative that can be synthesized from acetone and formaldehyde. The reaction is selective for the 4-position of the phenyl ring, and the product is largely in the 2-isopropylacetophenone (2-IPAP) form. This compound is used to manufacture industrial chemicals such as propionitrile, which are used to make other chemicals such as acrylic acid.
