3,4-Dichloro-5-hydroxyfuran-2(5H)-one (3,4-DCHF) is a hydroxylated compound that is the substrate for human enzymes. It reacts with serum proteins and forms products that are genotoxic in vitro. In vivo, 3,4-DCHF has been shown to induce mutations in the ovary of female mice.
