This chemical reacts with hydroxyl groups to form esters and amides. (3-Methylbut-2-en-2-yl)benzene is used as a polymerization initiator in organic solvents to produce linear polymers that have functional groups on the end of each molecule. The number of daltons in this chemical determines its solubility in water.
