Description:2-Fluoro-4-methylquinoline is an antibacterial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to their ribosomes. The structure of this compound is similar to that of fluoroquinolones, but it is not a member of this group. 2-Fluoro-4-methylquinoline has been shown to be effective against Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhimurium cells in vitro and in animal models. This drug binds to the bacterial ribosomes, preventing protein synthesis and cell division. It also inhibits the growth of mammalian cells in culture, but does not inhibit DNA replication or repair.
