Description:
4-MDM is a metabolite of 4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA). It is formed by the oxidation of MDMA with phosphotungstic acid and then recycled. The plasma concentrations of 4-MDM are increased during lung damage due to its ability to induce leukotriene A4 production. This metabolite has been detected in the urine of patients with emphysema, suggesting that it may be involved in the pathogenesis of this disease.
