Diisopropyl succinate is a dehydrating agent that is used in the sulfonation process to produce diisopropyl sulfonate. Diisopropyl succinate reacts with sodium hydroxide solution to produce diisopropyl sulfonate and water. The reaction kinetics for this process can be measured by examining the optical properties of the reaction mixture. Diisopropyl succinate is also used as a catalyst for reactions involving fatty acids, polycarboxylic acids, and diethyl succinate. It has been shown to have low energy nitrogen atoms and solid catalytic properties.
