3,5-Dimethylpyrazole-1-carboxamide is a low molecular weight compound that has a functional group at the C3 position. It has been shown to be an effective antibacterial agent against gram-negative bacteria. 3,5-Dimethylpyrazole-1-carboxamide binds to the active site of the enzyme DNA gyrase, which is involved in maintaining bacterial DNA integrity and prevents it from binding with ATP. This leads to inhibition of DNA synthesis and cell death. The molecule was found to have significant antibacterial activity against ampicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates.
