Description:
Methyl 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoate is a wittig reaction product of hexane and chlorides. It is an alkyl ester that can be isolated as a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 87°C. The molecule has two tautomers, one of which is the 1-hydroxy-2-acetonaphthone and the other is the 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronapthalene. The hydroxynaphthoate group can undergo photostability to form the 1-hydroxy-2-acetonaphthone tautomer.
