Description:2,2,5,7,8-Pentamethyl-6-chromanol is a caffeic acid derivative that has been shown to inhibit the growth of HL-60 cells. This compound also inhibits the activity of a number of enzymes including p-hydroxybenzoic acid, which is involved in cholesterol synthesis, and ester hydrochloride, which is necessary for the formation of bile acids. 2,2,5,7,8-Pentamethyl-6-chromanol has also been shown to have antioxidant properties and fluorescence properties that are useful as a probe for studying DNA structure. 2,2,5,7,8-Pentamethyl-6-chromanol can be used as an alternative to pyridine hydrochloride or 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine hydrochloride in chemiluminescence assays because it does not interfere with the reaction.
