Description

Ethaverine hydrochloride is a drug that belongs to the class of enzyme inhibitors. It inhibits the activity of malonic acid decarboxylase, an enzyme involved in the synthesis of catecholamines. Ethaverine hydrochloride is used for the treatment of symptoms of autoimmune diseases. This drug binds to dopamine receptors and prevents their activation by dopamine, thereby inhibiting its effects on energy metabolism. It also has an affinity for fatty acid receptors, which may be due to its hydroxyl group and analog properties. The binding causes a decrease in the rate of fatty acid synthesis and an increase in fat breakdown.

Ethaverine hydrochloride is typically administered orally or intravenously with a dosage range from 50-200 mg/kg body weight per day. The onset time for therapeutic efficacy is about 2 hours after oral ingestion, but can take up to 6 hours if given intravenously.
