Monobenzyl phenylmalonate is a carboxylic acid that is decarboxylated to form benzoic acid. It has a low melting point and is soluble in organic solvents. Monobenzyl phenylmalonate can be used as an intermediate in pharmaceutical preparations, but it can also be used in the manufacture of dyes and pesticides. The reactive nature of monobenzyl phenylmalonate means that it can cause chemical burns if it comes into contact with skin or eyes. This product should not be handled by pregnant women or people with known hypersensitivity to benzene derivatives.
