Description:

Cefotaxime sodium is a cephalosporin antibiotic that has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Cefotaxime sodium is used to treat many types of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract, skin, bone and joint infections, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea and syphilis. The maximum concentration of cefotaxime sodium in the body is achieved after an intravenous injection in 10 minutes. Cefotaxime sodium has been shown to be effective against antibiotic-resistant strains such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and tetracycline-resistant bacteria. This drug also binds to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, preventing transcription and replication. Cefotaxime sodium inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It is metabolized through a number of metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuron
