Cefatrizine is a clinical antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of gram-positive bacteria by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It is used for the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections. Cefatrizine has been shown to be active against Streptococcus pyogenes, which are responsible for streptococcal pharyngitis and other infectious diseases. Cefatrizine also inhibits tetracycline resistance in both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, such as Enterococcus faecalis, which are responsible for urinary infections. This antibiotic also has a low toxicity in human serum and exhibits biological properties that are similar to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
